Marathon is the largest town along the North Shore of Lake Superior between Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay. It was born as a railroad community, later developed with a pulp mill, and by the late 1980s it housed employees from the gold mines in nearby Hemlo. Penn Lake is a local lake within the town where tourists can enjoy camping and water sports. You can enjoy hunting, fishing, canoeing / kayaking, hiking, golf, cross country and alpine skiing, snowmobiling and more.
